In their book A Thousand Plateaux (orig. ''Capitalisme et Schizophrénie 2. Mille Plateaux'') Gilles Deleuzes and Felix Guattariv introduce two types of space: the smooth and the striated space. They act as processes and continually change because each one is continually translating or intersecting into or by the other. These two spaces resist a clear binary or dialectic. Deleuze and Guattari speak of smooth space as 'space is filled by events or haecceities, far more than by formed and perceived things. It is a space of affects, more than one of properties. It is haptic rather than optical perception' (1987).
