Schütz's motives refer to rational decision-making in daily life. All actors explain themselves in terms of their own projects, also named the motivating lived experience. For example, grocery shopping or getting your masterdegree. Schütz distinguishes two types of motives (Campbell, 1981, p.201-203), namely: - [[In-order-to motive]] In-order-to motives (um-zu motive) refers to future-orientated behaviour. You act a certain way to reach a goal. - [[Because motive]] Because motives (weil-motive) refers to activities that form who you are to get an own identity.
