John Searle

John Searle (1996, page 59f ) emphasizes that all institutions are built up and reproduced by speech acts. To be sure, not all of social life is structured by speech acts, and society is certainly not built up by speech acts alone. Speech acts may structure the metabolism of society, but the biophysical work cannot be done by words.
