Subaltern

Subaltern is a term thought of by the Indian woman Gayatri Spivak. The term subaltern refers to a group that cannot represent itself or is not put in a position where it may represent itself and therefore is put outside of the hegemonic discourse. This means that this people lose the power over their own decisions in a certain way and become dependant on other persons. Spivak talked about this phenomenon in the book "'Can subaltern speak?'", under the revision of Rosalind Morris
