Social system according to Giddens

Instead of newer systems theory - that relates social systems to autopoietic self-production of society of parts of society - Anthony Giddens thinks social systems are systematic social relations that arise from the practical reproduction of structures (structuration theory) over space and time. That is the reason why social systems contain moments of structure, that is, institutionalized aspects of social practice that stretch in space and time.
