Another example of second space could be when two people see the same movie. After they have seen the movie, they individually create an opinion about the movie in their minds. When they discuss the movie afterwards, they see that they have experienced the movie in a diffrent way. These two people were in de same first space because they have seen the same movie, but in their mind, the movie is experienced differently. They were in a diffrent second space.

The second space or conceived space is that space that is constructed in mental or cognitive forms (Soja, 1996). In this space there are thoughts and feelings of things you see in the perceived space (first space), so it is subjective. It is a normative approach to look at space and award a certain appreciation to this space. An example of something that happens in this conceived space, is saying that the river (Waal for example) or a certain building (the Erasmus building) are beautiful. These subjective meanings given to space are taking place in the conceived space.~
