Functional differentiation

Definition

Functional differentiation is a term used in the Luhmann's theory of society. This means that each subsystem within scoiety operates on the base of a binary internal code (Gren & Zierhofer, 2003). For example, science uses the code of true or false. Apart from science, no other system uses the code of true or false. More information can be found in Luhmann's theory of society and subsystem.
