'Penetration and the availability of knowledge' is one of the four aspects of 'social action', distinguished by Nigel Thrift. This is an important component of contextual regional geography. Nigel Thrift meant with the penetration of knowlegde the conditions for knowledge based communication which prevails in a specific region. The availability of knowledge varies per region. It is depended from the specific setting of a region. But it also depends on how the knowledge is mediated by class or other regional group members (Werlen 2009). An example of a research questions for this case could be: What is the influence of bilingual education (French and Dutch) for the development of an national Belgian identity in the region Brussels?
